What's New at the Range Lights

CEDAR SHINGLES FAIL TOO SOON

Last re-shingled in 1994 by the US Coast Guard, the materials and techniques used then has led to premature failure of the critically important protective exterior siding. In spite of our best efforts to maintain integrity of the buildings with spot repairs, the two wooden light towers are now in need of structural repairs and complete exterior rehabilitation.

Looking on the bright side, removing and replacing all exterior siding and roof shingles, provides the opportunity to replace missing architectural details depicted in historic documents that were later removed. The towers will regain the architectural beauty originally conceived by the designers in 1896.
